Ovulation cytology is similar to the saliva test, but the test samples are different. A vagina smear is done to collect test sample for cytology test while saliva is the test sample for saliva test. Cytology is a method whereby the structure of the vagina cells of a bitch in heat is observed under microscope to determine when the bitch is in estrous. It is otherwise called cornification. The cells lining the vagina wall of a bitch are fragile and tend to be hardened for the thrusting of the stud as ovulation approaches. This vagina cell is said to be cornified.
