I do not think that any method of ovulation test will suggest to you how to get more male or female in a litter.
However, a lot of things can be deduced from understanding your method of ovulation testing very well. Kitchen knife is for cutting in the kitchen. If you understand cutting principles very well, you may use cutlass or sword in its place.
The XY chromosome is male offspring while the XX is female offspring. The stud has XY chromosomes and the bitch has XX chromosomes. Y chromosome has a shorter lifespan than X chromosome, but has a faster speed than X chromosome. In summary, X is slower with a longer lifespan while Y is faster with a shorter lifespan.
It has been established that when the bitch releases eggs, it takes about 3 days(2½) for the eggs to mature and ready for fertilization. Armed with this, you can figure out how to determine sex of your litter.
I am an advocate of saliva ovulation testing method and I will tell you how that can be used to determine sex of a litter. When you use the microscope, it a bitch is about to ovulate, a distinct crystal known as ‘ferning’ is present in her dried saliva. At this point, the body fluids of a bitch will have a higher salt concentration which is visible in dried saliva. This change in body fluid occurs with rise in estrogen and it is usually 2 days before luteinizing hormone(LH) surge has occurred. Suffice to say oestrogen surge is about 4 days before ovulation. Also the eggs will take about 3 days to mature as mentioned earlier. The eggs are supposed to be fertile for another 3 days after maturity, before it begins to die off. Another thing is that semen can live for 5 days and this does not mean it applies to all. We are talking about ideal situation here, which may not be the reality of all semen.
Now with the above facts, we can decide to do first mating few days to ovulation or on ovulation before the eggs are matured. The assumption here is that, most Y chromosomes may have died before the eggs are matured for fertilization to give us more female or all female litter. Someone that desire more male or all male litter may decided to wait the eggs are assumed matured before mating is done since Y may likely to have fertilized all eggs before the slow moving X chromosomes from semen will get to the eggs.
In conclusion, your understanding of your ovulation methods can give you an inkling into how you can manipulate it to give information beyond the norms.
